When it comes to the seats in your car, fabric is a more practical material than leather. While leather’s expensive and requires regular conditioning, fabric’s more affordable and requires less maintenance. That’s not to say that car fabric doesn’t get dirty. In fact, it’s more susceptible to stains and odours than leather is.

Luckily, though, as fabric is so low maintenance, learning how to clean fabric car seats properly isn’t difficult at all. Here’s how...

How to Clean Fabric Car Seats

One of the likeliest reasons for dirty or smelly car seat fabric is staining, whether this is due to spilt food or water stains like sweat.

Sweat, food stains and split food can all cause your fabric seats to become dirty and smelly. The best way to clean fabric car seats is to act quickly before the stain becomes fully engrained or the odour becomes unbearable.

How to Get Stains Out of Fabric Car Seats

When it comes to choosing the best car fabric cleaner for the job, we recommend Hestia, our specialist fabric reviver.

Aptly named after the Greek goddess of the hearth, Hestia works on all kinds of car fabric, not just car seats, including fabric car upholstery, fabric carpets and even a car’s roof lining.

Containing UV brighteners and scented with a pleasant linen fragrance for a fresh looking and smelling finish, Hestia’s non-foaming formula has been crafted by the gods to remove hard ingrained residue for divine results.

How to Use Car Fabric Cleaner

Step 1: Use a vacuum to remove any dust or dirt from the top of the seat.

Step 2: Shake the bottle of Hestia, turn the nozzle to “on” and spray generously over the stain.

Step 3: Using a clean microfibre cloth, rub the product in all directions and apply pressure

Step 4: After scrubbing out the stain, wipe the area with another damp microfibre cloth to remove any excess product.

The longer you leave a stain, the harder it’ll be to get out. However, this doesn’t mean it’s an impossible task, certainly not with our stain eliminator, Artemis.

If you do find that a stain is particularly difficult to remove, don’t give up hope. Consider using Artemis instead.

How to Remove Mould from Fabric Car Seats

Not all interior issues are stain related. You may struggle with mould.

To make mould remover for fabric car seats, mix distilled white vinegar with tap water in a wash bucket. It should be 1 part vinegar, 1 part water. Then, dip a microfibre cloth in the vinegar/water solution and use it to wipe off the mould.

As vinegar has a distinctive smell, it might be worth spraying air freshener and winding down your car windows after you're done to air out your car.

Whether your car seats are made from fabric or leather, at Car Gods we have the best car cleansing products to keep them looking as good as new.
